POSY ARMSPRAY TEARDROP w TRAIL POMANDER CARRYBAG STYLE
Posy
The posy bouquet was most popular in Victorian times, when flowers were also the secret messengers of lovers; each flower having its own meaning. Thus bridal flowers were chosen with regard to their traditional significance. Unfortunately many lovely flowers were assigned rather undeserved meanings. However, today most brides pick their flowers for colour and personal appeal – Afterall...... It is a very personal choice.
Whether the end result is formal or loose and unstructured, the ribbon adorning a bridal bouquet is becoming almost as important as the flowers themselves, so be sure to choose a ribbon or fabric to compliment.
Arm Spray
Arm sprays first became popular for brides in the early 1900’s. This shape is held cradled in the arms, or more recently, upside-down against the skirt of your wedding gown. An arm spray bouquet is a good choice if you like the natural look of stems but want something a little larger and more dramatic than a posy. The ribbon or binding treatment can be a feature in itself, so make sure the ribbon you choose is appropriate.
Teardrop
The teardrop bouquet was born in the mid 1900's from te earlier shower bouquet. Unlike the oversized and exhaggerated shower bouquet, the teardrop holds it's shape, and is true to a teardrop form, albeit upside down. Although Teradrop bouquets are very structured, a relaxed and flowing affect can be acheived with a short trail beneath the point, or even leading into a cascading more natural look. Their long, elegant line can often be more flattering than the plump, round shape of the posy and complement elaborate and vintage gowns beautifully.
Pomander ( Kissing ball )
The Pomander is centuries old, yet have held their fresh and elegant appearance wonderfully. Not only do they have a dramatic, almost regal affect carried by the bride, they look lovely carried throughout the rest of the bridal party. Much like the ribbons tied around stems of other bouquets, the handle of the pomander is most important. Whether you go for a plain 2 tone ribbon or fancy plaited lace or maybe even a chain, it will surely change the look of the entire ball so pay close attention tot his element.
An added bonus of choosing Pomanders as your wedding bouquets is that when all the formalities are done, you can use them as reception venue decorations for the rest of the evening. They also look lovely as church pew decorations and even for outdoor or gardens ceremonies.
Carrybag Bouquet
The Carrybag Bouquet is a creation of my imagination. Most brides I've known (including myself) like to touch up their makeup and have a tissue at hand for those emotional moments during their wedding day, so I've come up with the carrybag bouquet. It is a combination of beauty and convenience. From the front, (see bouquets gallery) the carrybag is an abundance of beautiful blooms that are simply carried in the hand or with the handle slipped over the forearm as if it were a hand bag. Yet at the back hides a decorative drawstring organza pouch to secretly carry your palm mirror, tissues, lippy and anything else a bride deems as very neccessary! No one will even know it's there amongst all that foliage and floral splendour....unless ofcourse you decide to show it off!
You can personalise the handle as well as the flowers by opting for a plaited ribbon, twisted rope, beaded string or even a chain. You create the look you desire for your wedding day.
